Mergeable boats

Current boats on Minecraft look to small to carry even one character, and can still carry two. And they still have the annoying problem of sometimes the player accidentally hitting the passenger. I suggest that boats should be mergeable, in a way that you can merge the standard boat with one or two other boats to double or triple the size of the standard boat. The standard boat would be a bit more like the minecart, with just one "seat" and allowing a furnace or a chest to be placed on it. In that way, you could row a triple boat with a chest and a furnace on it (where you can cook your fish) or carry other two villagers maximum with you (ideal for starting a village in a remote place). I'm still not sure how the leash would work, comments would be great to support the idea
