Ability to Play with Friends but not have Access to Open Servers

It would be very helpful if there was the ability to be able to play online with friends and add new friends but not have the open servers available to play on.  The open servers are just too much for my son to handle mentally and emotionally but he does so well playing with his friends.  It is a constant fight because the servers are right there for him to join when his friends are not on.  It would be nice to have the option to close the open servers or not have them appear readily to be joined.  I am going to have to stop him from being able to play Minecraft because it is just too much for him to handle right now and it seems there should be an option to block the open servers from appearing.
