So currently, the only way to climb down in Minecraft is through placing sand or gravel and then breaking it. Since we are getting an update to caves and cliffs (as well as archaeology) I figured that climbable ropes would be the perfect addition. They could be crafted from a new type of plant (similar to tall grass) that is found in lush caves and jungles. They could be placed on the side of a block with a drop next to it. Only the top one has to be placed, as it could work like a reverse scaffolding. If the player clicks on a placed rope, it automatically fills in the air blocks below it until it reaches the block directly below the rope. Another cool feature is that a player could then right click the top of the rope with a hook (or similar item) to get all of the rope blocks instantly back into their inventory. Another advantage of ropes is that they would be the only climbable block that could be climbed on all four sides!
Every archaeologist needs a telescope, a brush, and a rope! This would be a super immersive feature, and it would be absolutely perfect for the new update's deep caverns and terrifyingly high cliffs. Let us be free from our unrealistic sand and gravel elevators and let as be adventurers!
