You should add the paralysis effect when the player is attacked by a creature. This creature would not cause any damage to the player because otherwise it would be too powerful. As a paralysis effect, the player might be unable to move his head and do any actions, including mining or attacking, but he could still move. So he could only see in one direction and could not mine or attack. If the player got close to the creature, then he might be unable to not only move his head, mine, and attack, but move as well his body.
This power would be a good one for a sea creature including the Glow Squid or simply the Squid, in caves or in the oceans. If the player got too close to the creature in the water, he would sink, since he couldn't move, until he was far enough away from it that he could start moving again. Obviously there would be a risk of drowning. This is why the creature could not do any harm, it would be able to paralyze the player so that he sinks and drowns. That would be his defense.
This effect would have no effect on the player if he was in a boat or standing on a block, out of the water.
