Defeating multiple Pillagers makes you “infamous”. Becoming infamous may cause Pillagers to actively seek you out. Dying or waiting for a period of in-game time before defeating another Pillager makes your infamous status go away. Pillager patrols would spawn a certain distance away, rather than travel from a tower.
