maybe instead of adding an extra slot, you can simply use amethyst instead of lapis, and when using amethyst you get higher level enchantments, similar to how gold equipment gets better enchantments than other materials. This way you have a really good incentive for finding the amethyst geodes to farm, because they are really good at improving your enchantments before you have access to enchanted books

yes! as crystals are offend use in magic, I was thinking using the smiting table to combine the shard with weapons, armor, and tools so when enchanting, it will act like gold tools and give better enchantments.

I was thinking about using shards as an easier way to upgrade enchantment books.

For example: Combining Efficiency II with a shard in an anvil to create Efficiency III with the cost of a few levels.

Maybe if you get lucky the shard will also add an additional enchantment to the book also.

    Amethyst uses:  Scrying.

A "scrying eye"....craft the eye with amethyst around an Ender Eye....Then craft a "Scrying table"....much like an enchanting table but uses amethyst instead of diamonds....   once the table is crafted, the eye is "bound" to the table much like compasses are to lodestones, and then the eye can be placed.   Once place, the eye can be "seen thru" using the table, showing the current area around the eye......

A given table might only "connect" to a limited number of scrying eyes, perhaps as many as 3.....

I was just having the same thought, could even do a new enchantment table for powering up enchantments perhaps tie it in with something new from the end to encourage a late-game purpose. Could even be the foundation for late-game automation that a lot of mods add for farming instead of making villagers do the work and taking from them serf style. Or large complex redstone machines with tnt for cobblestone and lumber...

The new echoshards could maybe used instead of amethyst and give may not better, but other enchantments, that may are harder to handel but strong when mastered.

    Great idea!
