Bedrock is getting the Render Dragon, why not update the Java graphics before things become too complicated to change?
- Update or change the render engine to something newer and more efficient. (Newer OpenGL or Direct3D, perhaps) Shaders would finally be viable at higher render distances.
- Rework the way certain entities are rendered (Example, the infamous Chest lag.)
We shouldn't be relying on having beefy graphics cards to run a graphically basic game, the same Graphics cards that run GTA V smoothly in the more intense parts of the city struggle to run Minecraft with basic shaders at similar render distances.
There shouldn't be such a disparity in performance when GTA V is a much more graphically intense game than Minecraft (even with shaders) will ever be.
