When the player collects crystals they will have the chance to get 1-3 crystal shards. When they collect 6 crystal shards they can craft a crystal ingot, then they will be able to give the ingot a potion effect by dipping it into a cauldron with the desired potion.
The player will have to enchant all the ingots with the same potion type to get the effect. For example I enchant 8 crystal ingots with the fire resistance potion, so when I make it into a chest plate I have the fire resistance effects until I take off the chest plate of it breaks. The same would apply to tools, like swords with the poison effect.
The crystal gear would have very low durability, almost as low as wood. They also wouldn't be able to have the normal enchantments. However, the gear would be very efficient; the pickaxe, axe, and shovel would break blocks as fast as if it had an efficiency 5 enchantment. The sword would also be able to do 16 damage.
When the gear breaks you have the chance to get cursed. The curse would depend solely on the player's XP. An example of this would be the player's entire inventory developing the curse of vanishing if they are past level 50.
There could also be new curses like the curse of misfortune. This curse would make it so the player's chance for loot would go down over 50%. This curse would also cause patrols to spawn near villages, iron golems to attack, and villagers to double their prices.
