Intelligent creatures that live far below the surface
They primarily live off of mushrooms
They would be very slightly taller than 1 block
They flee from hostile creatures and live in small villages within the deep underground caverns. Their buildings are very cramped being only 2 blocks tall on the inside. All of their buildings are large enough for the player to enter, but within some parts of the houses, the player needs to crouch or expand them. These civilizations would light up parts of the cavern with special glow mushrooms.
Gnomes can interact with the player and accept surface items for underground items. Unlike villagers, they have an abundance of emeralds and do not have a valid currency.
They would use a combination of bartering and trading. The player must offer the gnome an item that the gnome wants, and in return the player can pick something in return. The gnomes will often accept those surface items such as wood, wheat, saplings, and other things not found underground. In return, they would offer the player mining equipment, ores, or mushroom foods.
They would offer a safeplace for the player when you are deep underground. Gnomes get unhappy when they are close to the surface and will try to make their way back underground, not accepting any trades at all during the process.
