During the very recent Minecraft Live event the CAVES AND CLIFFS UPDATE was revealed, and it brought tons of features, including a fun activity called (by the devs) rafting. According to them, this is, and I agree, very fun. The idea is to take out your boat and explore the new wild caves hidden in the depths of your world.
This could be better implemented, coming with a new type of caves as a bonus. Here's my solution (pls bear with me):
- Seeing water will now form in tons of different ways, flowing water formed in caves should accelerate boats that are on them;
- Be careful, as high speeds may and will hurt you when try to role play Newton and discover inertia the hard way;
- Currents would be way more dangerous by adding that pinch of RL into the game and making them pull you to the bottom, making wild currents way harder to navigate without a boat.
Put yourself in this situation: Exploring the new caves, you stumble upon a very wide, yet not so tall, filled with a wild current. You see the water violently hitting the stalagmites, spilling all over the cave. You grab your boat, placing i down, the current already trying to take it away. You quickly hop in, and soon realizes this wont be an easy journey. The sharp turns of the water, added to the ever growing danger of hitting one of the rock formations, making the adrenaline rush trough your body. It's hard to keep the boat safe, always trying to keep the boat on the treacherous tracks of the WILD CURRENTS CAVE.
