Cool, I also thought of the idea of helictites. At least the functionality of placing them sideways would be really cool. And if you get pushed into them by pistons, or fly into them, you should take more damage. They should also be able to be pushed by pistons while attached to a block, & pulling the block would pull the helictites, so you could make a cool smasher trap. Maybe, just maybe, helictites could rarely spawn naturally. But helictites would still be dripstone, the same item.

Yes!!! I had a specific idea for how soda straws could work: They drip, similarly to dripstone, HOWEVER, they have different speeds and are rarer. Up to four can be placed on a single block, and only on the bottom of the block. If you put 1, it drips at 1/2 the speed of dripstone. 2 will be the speed of dripstone. 3 will be 1 1/2 the speed of dripstone. 4 will be double the speed of dripstone. They are much rarer, though. Also, maybe three crafted together makes two pointed dripstone.

And how about cave popcorn? In real life, cave popcorn is a tiny calcite structure that looks like a popcorn ceiling, but on the wall in areas that have high levels of oxygen. What if these only show up within 10 blocks of sea level (63) in dripstone caves? That could be an interesting visual way to show where you are for those playing bedrock who do not turn on "show coordinates". They would also be an interesting decorative block that can be used on the walls, ground, or ceiling. Since it is off-white, it could work as popcorn ceilings.

Also adding pil reserves with Caprock, natural gas, oil and water in the correct geographical formations would be a cool badlands based little submerged cave type. Add a new crystal that counts as a lighting source, and Makin cave spiders spawn naturally to fit the theme of the caves and cliffs video trailer they made would be sick too.
