In the new Caves and Cliffs update, new underground lakes were added that lets the player swim or boat underground in gigantic caverns. In the demo video, the caves are shown as brightly lit, but this was explained to be demonstrational only, so the real caves will presumably be very dark. This creates a feeling of a huge, empty, dark space underground that can feel very unnerving as the player is unable to see very far into the darkness. The player may instead choose to go out onto an island or on a boat in the middle of an underground lake, where they may feel safer with a body of water between them and the skeletons, creepers, and new Warden mobs; however, lurking in the depths below their boat, a giant eel roams in the underground lake, slithering between massive stalagmites and searching for prey. The eel, like the warden, is blind due to underground lakes being very dark. The eel is instead attracted to the sounds the players make, so players may be unsafe swimming as they must move to stay afloat. A player is a boat may be better off, as when an eel attacks a boat, they only knock the player out of the boat before they can come back around to bite down on them. A boat also makes no sound when absolutely still, so an eel will not notice a still boat unless it comes very close to it. The eel has a visible luminescent pattern on it's back, but goes dark when it heard a player, so the player must rely on sound cues to detect the eel's whereabouts
