As more armor slots are being reserved for other purposes (elytra on chestplate, gold on something), a fully equipped player is becoming less protected by armor. Also, as new armor tiers are being added, they are always better than the previous best. Why not make a new mid-tier armor that has a gimmick?
I present Redsteel. It would be created using a smithing table to alloy gold with redstone. It would retain the gold armor's property of repelling piglins, while also granting it more strength for practical use.
In terms of looks, it would be a slightly paler color of red than redstone, with some golden tinges and tints sparkling in it.
Redsteel tools would keep the efficiency of gold, while being able to mine all of the same blocks that diamond can. It would have durability that is between netherite and diamond, and it's attack damage and defense would be the same as iron.
In conclusion, Redsteel tools and armor would add a cool new mid tier material to minecraft, make one of the worst armor trade-offs not nearly as bad, and would give another use for the underutilized smithing table.
