This is exactly what it sounds like: An immense slightly irregular pillar of selenite stretching from the floor to ceiling of one of the new mega caves.
These columns would be solid, composed entirely of a new block, Selenite, and would spawn exclusively in the largest caves. Selenite would be a translucent white crystal block slightly similar to quartz columns, with thin vertical lines on the sides and a mottled glassy texture on the top and bottom. Essentially, it would function as a variant of glass that only lets light through. Columns would act like fiber-optic cables when paced end on end. If a Selenite block begins transmitting light, it counts as a block update, allowing them to pass signals to observers from distances up to 50 meters.
So yeah, it's basically just a giant tower of selenite. It would look pretty cool in a cave though, and it would give minimalist builders some pretty good lighting options.
