Phantoms spawning based on sleeping makes sleeping into an annoying chore that the player is made to carry out, which isn't good. My idea is having phantoms spawn based on how far away from spawn the player is, with phantoms rarely beginning to spawn when the player is 300-500 blocks away from their spawn point. Phantom spawning would gradually increase with distance and at 1000-2000 blocks phantom spawning would be at max. This spawn mechanic makes it easy to stop fantoms from spawning without making the player do anything, so they only spawn when the player goes on long journeys without setting up a base/ spawn point every now and then.
