We can all agree that spider eyes have a peculiar property - they are visible even in complete darkness (endermen and ender dragon eyes do, too). But other than the brewing and (bad) food item, they don't have much use. It would be cool if it was possible to craft them in some kind of block, like the honeycombs.
The uniqueness of that block would be that part of it's texture has the same visual properties that spider eyes have and is visible even in complete darkness (but not emitting light).
That block can have use in a new genre of minecraft maps - lightless mazes or lightless survival arenas, where you fight in the complete darkness and are guided by that block.
The recipe can use simple spider eyes or fermented ones, and it should use other items as well (stone, clay, terracotta or concrete, mushroom blocks, redstone lamp or redstone come to mind).
If possible, that block can be "deactivated" to have a normal shader by redstone. Or it even can have varying amounts of dithering (or color lightness) for varying redstone strengths.
And if possible, it could be colored with dyes.
I searched for similar suggestions and found one that does not take into account the visibility aspect and one similar that does not mention the redstone properties and has a different emission idea in mind.
I see the texture borderless and dithered, akin to the central side of the noteblock texture for example.
