Minecraft has had 3 camera angles for the longest time: the default 1st person, a 3rd person angle directly behind the head, and a camera angle directly in front of the head. The game was designed to be played in 1st person; the 3rd-person camera angles are great for checking out your skin, but they have very few uses in normal gameplay.
The 1st person angle works perfectly well for actually playing the game, but I think it would be nice if you could play in 3rd person as well. People put lots of work into Minecraft skins, and it would be great to be able to enjoy them! The main problem with the current 3rd person view is that the player model's head blocks what the crosshairs are aiming at, making it difficult to fight and nearly impossible to build in this view.
I propose a 4th camera angle: a 3rd person over-the-shoulder view. This angle is typical of most 3rd person games; the camera is offset from the player model, looking past their shoulder so that the player is able to see the player model and whatever the crosshair is pointed at simultaneously.
In Minecraft, I would propose that the camera would look past the player model's right shoulder, unless the player changes the dominant hand to left in the settings, in which case it will look past the left shoulder. This way the player will be able to clearly see the item in their dominant hand.
As a bonus, new hotkeys to switch to specific camera angles, and to change the dominant hand, would make this new feature even better!
