An idea that is a bit out there, but my for the new combat overhaul is Rage (inspired by the Calamity mod in Terraria).
Rage would be a toggleable mechanic that would be able to let you attack slightly faster with any weapon (especially when it comes to the charge up time of ranged weapons) and each hit would do a bit more damage over the weapon's stats. There would be a bar relatively close to your UI which would fill up slightly each time you hit a hostile or angered neutral mob, once the bar is full it fill slowly start to deplete so you will have to use it fast. At this stage you'll be able to press a key that will activated rage mode and the bar will deplete faster until it is empty which causes rage mode to end and the whole cycle to repeat all over again.
In tern I think rage could be a major game changer to pvp combat or any combat in genial. It would add a new layer of strategy for players to think about, paving the wave for tougher mobs and bosses to fight.
