Are Creepers too common?

I get that Creepers are like the face of Minecraft or at least used to be But I believe they spawn a little too frequently.
I find myself having to fill holes left by them all the time. It's very annoying that when they explode you don't get all of the blocks back further wasting your time...
I love creepers but I also really hate them.
A fix for this would be adding another "common" hostile mob to the game that spawns everywhere just like the current four and their variations (zombie, skeleton, creeper, and spider) Maybe a baby creeper that's faster and doesn't destroy blocks... just a thought.

    I would like a baby creeper that destroys 1 block but does less damage. It would be slightly faster than a normal creeper, and it would propel you a bit farther. Gunpowder drops would be the same frequency as adult creepers
