The combat snapshots are already trying to do it, but let's make it a bit better, hoe combat, I know it may sound like a stupid pun, but hear me out:
Up to this point, the sword is the weapon for crowd control and medium speed, and the axe is the weapon for slow and strong blows and 1v1 (even if it is PvP or PvE), what if the hoe is the weapon fast and weak attacks and for making combos? This would make the gap between 1.8 combat and 1.9 combat and make hoes worth having on you hotbar, and also, I would love to see Hoe vs Axe combat with this system.
Now with ECS6, shields can stand up to 5 points of meelee damage, making better hoe tiers even more necessary for PvP.
Also, Swords have Sweeping Edge, Axes have Cleaving, let's give Hoes the Extending enchantment, which increases your range but also reduces your knockback, and is mutually exclusive with the Knockbak enchantment, so a good hoe player can stunt someone by combo-ing them by far, but if you fail the combo you get in the other persons's range, since you have low knockback, and in a PvE setting it would be useful to, for example, stop a Vindicator from hitting you with his axe.
