Smoke

When you use a furnace or any type of item that makes fire and requires fuel, there should be smoke that comes out of it. You should be able to cook things, but at a cost. If you do not place cobblestone wall above your furnace, the room should eventually become flooded with smoke and you would die. Basically like drowning, except smoke bubbles instead of water bubbles.
