I would like to propose a craftable tap for a tree. It could be crafted with an arrow and tripwire hook. When placed on a log one can then use a bucket on the tap to start collecting sap. The bucket fills with a substance that is dependent on the log that is tapped.
- Oak and Dark Oak produces syrup sap which can be combined to make syrup, which is used like honey.
- Spruce produces pitch which can be used as fuel in a furnace, or combined to make tar, an even more effective fuel, or it can again be concentrated to make a tar block, a super fuel. Tar blocks slow you down like soul sand. Tar can also be combined with gravel to make asphalt.
- Jungle produces rubber sap, which can be cooked in a furnace into rubber scrap then combined to make a rubber block. Rubber scrap could be used with leather to make running shoes, which would reduce hunger gain while running by half. If one falls onto a rubber block it would launch you back up to 5 blocks below the distance you fell until you safely came to rest. Any entity walking into a rubber block gets launched 5 blocks in the opposite direction.
- Acacia produces amber sap, which can be combined to create amber, a jewel-like material that can be used to make tools and armor that is between wood and iron level, but with near-gold enchantment. It can be combined into Amber blocks, which can be used with rubber and iron to make a lightning jar to collect "bottled lightning" in storms as a brewing ingredient.
- Birch produces ???
