The food system is really unrealistic...
No human would survive when he eats just bread and bread and bread - He would die of scurvy.
In order to change this I would like to see a change to the hunger bar. It should be divided into 3 sections:
fruits(2 haunches), vegetables and baked goods(4 haunches) and meat(4 haunches). Each of these sections would be shown by a different indicator, for example: fruits by apples, vegetables by carrots and meat by the good old meat haunches. The differnt sections would only fill up when eating corresponding type of food. Combined foods like the rabbit stew would fill up the sections that it contains parts from.
When one of these sections run out, the player would not get damaged, but he would be affected so he just can sprint slower, mine slower maybe with delayed actions. The more sections run out, the harder it gets. Only when all run out the player would get damage.
With this type of system a balanced nourishment is important to survive and it would give a deeper sense to all kinds of foods. It would also add reasons for adding more types of food, the introduction of fruit trees and the addition of more huntable or breadable animals.
