Better Beacons

Beacons are quite a nice block in Minecraft, and can be quite expensive but they aren't exactly necessary. They only grant special abilities within a certain distance but in terms of combat, while it can be a nice defense boost for killing mobs around your base, it doesn't do a lot for it's cost. Enchants are much better and cheaper than this so what exactly is the point of getting a beacon?

Well, I think one simple change that could make beacons great again (Yes, that line's there on purpose) is to remove the distance factor for one of the effects given. Since you can choose what effects you want depending on the amount of iron or gold or whatever rich blocks you have to activate it, the max beacon type should allow for one of the abilities to be activated infinitely on the player no matter the distance. This could provide a real goal for survival players to get the beacon. However, to encourage getting more beacons, this effect should be limited to the specific dimension the beacon is in.
