One of the most frustrating things for me in Minecraft is gathering apples. Instead of waiting around for leaves to decay and randomly produce an apple, I just try to find a village and rummage through their chests. It'd much easier if there was a visual indication that a leaf block would produce an apple when broken or decayed, that way forestry would be more efficient than pillaging. Instead of a separate "Apple Leaves" block, it could be a block state so that multiple leaf types could give you an apple. Plus, when right-clicked, the apple could be dropped and the leaves could return to their non-apple state - letting players obtain apples without chopping down a forest. When it comes to finding apples, any time a tree is generated, each leaf block may have about a 1% chance of bearing an apple, so about every other tree would have at least one apple. The same could apply to trees grown by the player. In any case, the current method of gathering apples is far too luck-based and would be less frustrating if there was a visual indication that you would receive an apple from a given leaf block.
