While looking at an article about the strider, I saw a picture of an early strider design (referred to as a crawler) created by Jasper Boerstra (picture below). The design of the animal looked cool, and I thought it would be nice if it was introduced as its own mob. The main idea that I had for its behavior was an enderman hunter. I always found it annoying how endermen would slowly destroy the terrain in the warped forest. It would be a nice feature if the crawlers would kill the endermen, pick up any blocks they had, and place the blocks back where they came from. When interacting with players, piglins, and hoglins, crawlers would be neutral. However, when attacked by any of these mobs, the crawlers would defend themselves in two ways. The first way would be by spitting flaming spit balls. The second way would be with a plate of scaly armor (not shown in original design) covering it’s back. This plate of armor would be special, since it would deflect ¼ of any damage back onto the attacker. If a crawler failed to protect itself and died, it would drop a food item and crawler scales*. A few other attributes would be that, because of their short stubby legs, they would be slow moving and get stuck in soul sand. Also, they would be in between the size of a ravager, and would only spawn in warped forests. *Crawler scales could be used to make crawler scale blocks. These blocks would increase fall damage when you landed on one, and would be found in bastion remnants as traps.
