Trimmed Cactus (desert/badlands update?)

Either using a hoe or shears we will be able to trim a cactus of its thorns and turn the block into a new form of (wood block) being able to create stairs, slabs, doors, trapdoors, fence, fence gates, buttons, pressure plates and walls. I’ve thought about this for a while and just thought of the great idea that this could be in the Desert or badlands update, it would be a great new block and would add new building styles and would just be an interesting mechanic to the game. What could you create from this idea. Thank you
