    If anything, these criminal villagers could be some sort of Illager, perhaps called the traitor. The traitor could only use their bare hands to do damage, and wouldn't do much...

    However, releasing a traitor from their cell should agitate Iron golems to where you too will be attacked. Thus making the golems act as punishment for such deeds. 

     

    Of course, If a traitor Is to escape, there's a small chance a raid will happen.

    Like some people have been saying, it should be an illager, not a villager, as villagers can't put up a fight for their lives. But there could also be a guard who tries to spot any escaping criminals, instead of everyone just knowing and it could be a minigame kinda style
