A Transcription Table in Minecraft may allow for written books to be copied at the expense of a book, and ink and quill, and in the case of enchanted books, a large sum of experience.
The block's GUI top slot will be for a stack of ink and quills. Three slots will line up underneath: □ -> □ = □ The first slot is for a written or enchanted book. The next slot is for a book to write in (the item in this slot will be consumed). The third slot is the result.
The block could be used to do the following:
* Enchanted Books may be copied onto blank books for a level cost equal to three times the enchantment rank i.e. copying a book with Sharpness V and Soul Speed III will cost 24 levels. Mending is special and will cost 22 levels to copy.
* Written Books may be copied for no level cost.
* Combine Written Books, writing the contents of the first book to the end of the second Writen Book.
* Copy enchantments from a tool, or armour to a blank book and destroy the tool or armour. This should cost similar to copying enchanted books.
I don't know if replacing anvil functionality is a good idea, but this block could also be used to:
* Combine Enchanted Books.
* Enchant tools or armour with an Enchanted Book, destroying the book.
Similar to a loom, this block has an intuitive responsibility: copying and combining books. And block like this would encourage us to explore all their wonderful uses.
