Mojang has repeatedly turned down several animal related ideas due to concerns of animal cruelty, however ingame mob farming essentially encourages the player to coup several dozen animals in a small ring of fence for resource efficiency, and automatic farms leave mobs trapped in breeding chambers, both practices that are common place in real life industrial farms.
From a gameplay perspective, it also discourages players from deviating from the 'tried and true'.
Passives should make a check for grass, sunlight, water sources and haybales/composters, and depending on the abundance of the prior, an NBT 'joy' tag can be changed accordingly.
A single water source underneath air can satisfy up to 5 mobs, and a haybale/composter can satisfy 3. Abundance of food and water can result in bonuses.
NBT 'joy' levels:
- 0: Overcrowded/absent water & food; Mobs won't drop items or xp.
- 1: Crowded (max. animals per block) water, no food or viceversa; reduced drops (20-40%)
- 2: Sufficient water and food: regular drop table.
- 3: Abundant resources (animal isn't sharing it's water & food with more than 2 others); Max level, animals have increased drops and can breed automatically if there are enough resources for their children and the game day counter is a multiple of 5.
