Vegan/Guilt free ways of obtaining animal specific items

Hello there, i've been watching and playing minecraft for a couple of years now and ever since Beta 1.0 i wondered if there was gonna be a vegan or guilt free way of obtaining animal specific items, as after i settle into my base, organize and get going i always have to end up slaughtering poor cows and chickens for their items. Please add an alternative, i think everyone would want it. Many thanks in advance.

    i would like to be able to get things like leather or black ink without having to kill for it.

    i needed books today. felt awefull for having to kill cows :(

    mushroom leather is a thing these days!

     

    if people want to get leather from cows thats their choice, i just dont want to have to :)

    In the same vein, I think it'd be cool to also have options for full on pacifism where you don't have to kill monsters either. Such as a new item for fixing elytras, or the option to make mulch instead of bonemeal (I'm assuming mulch is vegan)

    Vegan leather would be essential for those who don't wanna hurt animals to make books. Chickens and parrots could drop feathers randomly.

    it is a game not real life why make vegan stuff you arent actually killing real animals.

    soy as a plant is a great idea, it could be used to feed animals that eat wheat and it could also be crafted into tofu or milk.. soy wax also exist i know thats too much for an item but its real

    As a game that is heavily played by children and produced by a company that claims some level of ethical leadership and given the necessity of moving towards a animal product free future for the climate and just for the animals, and given Minecraft's philosophy of playing the way you want, pressuring kids to exploit animals in game when alternative exist in real life feels inconsistent with Minecraft's stated values. Having more food options with high saturation that can be obtained after meat but before golden carrots and that can be farmed reasonably automatically without villagers as well as an alternative source of leather would be ideal. Having alternatives to wool as well as milk for removing effects and making cake would be ideal. In the real world you can create just as good vegan alternative with slightly more effort and if Minecraft takes it's values and stewardship of young minds seriously it should be possible in game as well.

    My daughter is 10 and (mostly) vegan. She plays Minecraft without killing cows or sheep, meaning she has to survive quite a few nights before she can make shears to then get a bed. That's achievable but hard. However, needing leather for books is pretty major, when really you don't fundamentally need leather for books. She just fishes for them I think. I think being able to craft leather from mushrooms (or maybe mushroom blocks) would be a fun alternative, and it's nice to open up multiple channels. You can already make leather from rabbit skins, so why not. Also imo it's pretty traumatic the way the cows run away from you when you hit them with a sword.

    Just fired up mine raft after ten years. My 4 year old watching. He quietly asks me if we can please not hurt anymore animals. I felt terrible. Please please make this an option.
