I totally agree with this! Mojang please implement this. The nether is kinda hard to traverse sometimes and since the fortress' are rarer in 1.16 this makes the nether kinda uninteresting in a way. My friend and I had to spend multiple hours trying to find a fortress and it got pretty boring because of the fortress rarity. If the fortess rarity is decreased then the nether becomes a little bit more interesting, for me at least.

I disagree. Generally I think that making anything more rare makes it more challenging to obtain, and Nether Fortresses provide a huge development in the game. Finding and beating a Nether Fortress should feel like a major accomplishment, not a menial task like chopping down wood or finding some sheep for a bed.

Another way this problem could be amended would be to add random smaller nether fortresses or camps with just a dilapidated nether brick structure, some magma and a blaze spawner. This makes it so regular nether fortresses are still exclusive with their good loot in the chests, nether wart and wither skeletons while offering the player with a quicker, cheaper alternative with less payoff. Maybe to incentivise regular players coming near these camps, on breaking the blaze spawner it could give double the xp than compared to a regular spawner. They'd probably be as a rare as the random nether portal remnants you can find in the nether.

    Potential Mockup:

I don’t think people necessarily want the fortresses rarity itself should increase, but rather increase the ability in obtaining blaze rods and/or nether warts. I agree that Nether Fortresses rarity should go up a bit, but maybe in addition add other methods in getting blaze rods, blaze powder, and nether warts. This would also make speed runners and new players happy.

    I think nether fortress should be easier for everyone to find Java {Pc/Console} and Bedrock {PE♡Aka phone/tablet}

I've been looking for a fortress for 4 irl days already. I managed to find some wart in a bastion remnant but I'm still missing the blazes.

+1 Not only is the game becoming a yawn to play because of this huge setback but so is watching it. Very boring, grindy, and unrealistic

we need this because as a player nether fortress are important to progress into the end, and some speedrunner will find this harder as its 3x rare

Honestly they shouldn't have changed the rarity please put it back to somewhat the normal rate because makes it hard to find fortrsses when going though a fortress is hard enough.

PS4 player here. I'm about to give up on this game bc finding fortresses is all but impossible now. I've copied games and gone into creative mode to see if I can locate one... It's literally 10,000+ units away from my closest settlement and is ruining the fun of my Minecraft experience. I don't mind grinding. I'm busting hump in the nether to find netherite, etc, but this is too much. I can't even use mods to help bc I'm on console.

Building off of this, I think we could have different fortress designs for each biome, similar to how each village is different per biome. We keep the original spawn rates of the fortresses and also introduce an updated build of the original fortress, since its build is starting to look outdated compared to other structures.

Reply to @DSF Darker; Yes, Strongholds are essential, but they have a blippin’ built in mechanic to locate them. And guess what? That very mechanic is dependant on first finding a Nether Fortress. The Nether has super low visibility, is pretty darn hard (=time consuming) to navigate and it’s not like finding the fortress is the end of it, what with skeletons and blazes doing their best to make you oh so very dead once you actually find them.

In my current world I have spent _many_ hours exploring >1.5 K blocks in each direction from my portal. 0 fortresses (but three bastions... yay...). How much fun do you think I’m having at this point?

The new nether is really beautiful to explore on its own. (Especially if you have optifine and can adjust fog levels) The fortress rarity is downright frustrating and discouraging, they were already rare enough

Since the new nether update nether fortresses have become extremely hard to find. Loads of speed runners have suffered because they can not find a fortress. One of my fav speed runners haven’t even made it to the end once since the update. You have to be extremely lucky if you want to at least get sub 40. It’s just ridiculous about the drastic change in the rarity of the nether fortresses. Thank you for read and taking into account for my response and opinion.

I have run a lot of random worlds and I have found more Bastions than Fortresses, I dont think that should be the case considering the loot you can get from Bastions

I'd argue that instead of focusing so much on nether fortress generation, provide a way to locate them. I generally find one will generate within a few hundred blocks of any nether spawn which isn't unreasonable to travel, but discovering the fortress is a complete pain. Maybe something involving the Loadstone?

Unfortunately, the latest update has shifted speedrunner strategies to relying on luck, as opposed to optimizing gameplay. being able to play the game skillfully by parkouring, crafting quickly, kiling mobs quickly, etc, should be rewarded.

the latest update has also shoved a roadblock in front of casual players, who just want to progress thru the game, and are not as skilled as speedrunners.

    Solution-

Make all the other new structures more rare, and leave fortresses alone (1.15), as they have essential things for speedrunners and casual players alike.

    ALT IDEA

What if there was a new feature/item implemented that helped locate fortresses? acquiring this item shouldn't be entirely luck based, but like crafting a compass.

this would allow the nether to stay spaced out as it is, and give players a chance to completely avoid the "pick a direction and hope for the best!" strategy that just got severely worsened by the new update.

perhaps crafting a locator using items in the nether, (quartz, gold, etc) or by offering something to a piglin in exchange for directions! ex., toss them a gold block and they might pick it up and point their sword in the direction of the nearest structure. this would feel more like an adventure!

As a speedrunner myself, it takes me around 5-10 minutes to find one on average. So i totally agree with this that they need to be more common. the reason they are now 2x rarer is because they can only spawn in nether wastes and soulsand valleys. They can cut through other biomes though. i think they should be able to spawn in the other nether biomes too.

As an amateur Speedrunner, I would 100% agree. In 1.15, i would usually speedrun minecraft in about 1 hour and 12 minutes, but in 1.16, it almost took about 2 hours. I also classically play survival, and of course, i hate searching for a nether fortress that is millions of blocks away. I find it really tiring and less fun than better.

Idea: Piglins Bartering Lodestone compasses that point to Nether Fortress. As such a lodestone shall be added to fortresses (below the 1 block of lava). This will also make it a really cool mechanical use of Lodestones and would be useful for speedrunning.

(Its only an idea, I agree with this post)

@Noybs Noybs They can spawn in Basalt Deltas too. But the overall percentage composition of Crimson and warped forest is a lot.

@DSF Darker I want a mechanic to locate it or make it more common, its essentially required for accesing the DIMENSION end, various crafting recipes like echests AND a whole mechanic as in Brewing. I dont think all of this should require you to travel 1000 blocks in nether which is really hard to do, not to mention you are doing it aimlessly, you dont even have a guarantee you will find it.

Absolutely. It takes just way too long and tedious to finish a game in this version cause I can't find a fortress. At least make fortresses appear in any biome, not just the Nether Wastes.

I am a new player and I can definitely say that the Nether fortress has been the one irritating find. I leveled up an entire village, got a woodland manaion map, traveled well over 15,000 blocks to find it, and only my Nether trip back to my home base from said mansion, did I find a fortress... only to find that my fortress had the worst spawn structure ever with zero inside rooms, and hence zero netherwart, and not even the Bastion I found had netherwart. I tried following advice to find a second fortress from there (200-400 blocks along the z axis), and there was nothing in site... I don't like using cheats, but I had to use locate to find another, and it was not only 400 blocks along the z axis, but also 400 blocks along the y axis.... are they arranged in a radius from your Nether spawn now? And what's with the poor generation of the original structure I found? I'm getting really tired of Nether travel and building nether roads.... all I want is to brew a few potions so I have at least a remote chance of beating the dragon...

I would love for the rarety to be back to the way it was. It would make it alot more balanced in my apinion. The new nether is already harder to traverse and just all around more dangerous. It doesn't make sense for the nether fortress, one of the things that was already a challenge to to find and get to, to make even harder to find when the terain and mob spawns have already been significantly changed to make it harder, when it's also what is needed to beat the game. It's too much for most beginning players, and even some casual players.

I agree. I was attempting to speed run and gave up. I checked where the nearest fortress was after giving up just to know and it was 1000 blocks away from my portal at 50 64 100

This is so painful. I've spent days finding 4 Nether fortresses. No blaze spawners in any of them. I can't make potions, can't get to the End to try it out. Very frustrating.

You do realise that this change was due to the fact that they made it to where nether fortress can only spawn in Nether Wastes right. so in general, the spawn rate didn’t change, it just became rarer because of the new biomes.

I actually disagree. Instead, what could be done is use a method to locate nether fortresses in a similar way strongholds are being located. They are an essential part of the game and this would justify their current rarity as well as incentivize exploring the new mechanics of the nether.
