Turtles in game were designed to reflect turtles in the real world, to some degree.
In-game, the player must protect turtle eggs and baby turtles from predators who want to destroy them, so that they can make it out into the ocean, similar to how people protect the endangered speices from their natural predators in the real world so they can survive the trip to sea.
There's just one problem: ADULT TURTLES DON'T DESPAWN.
As this is the case, the player--after breeding turtles for scutes--will be forced to go out and kill turtles to avoid overpopulation, and lagging their game with an overabundance of entities.
The fix for this should be simple; make unnamed adult turtles despawn during the night when far enough away from the player. Just be sure to make turtles spawn on beaches in the daytime without issues, so that they still appear in-game, unlike how rarely peaceful mobs spawn due to not despawning like they did back in beta.
