Different blocks could be weathered after being placed and left alone away from the player for a long time. There would be four-ish types of weathering. The first type is cracking, which would crack types of stone and stone bricks after being left alone for a long time (stone turns into cobblestone, polished andesite into andesite, stone bricks into cracked stone bricks, that kind of thing). The next type would be rotting, which would rot wooden blocks so they would be weaker, and would possibly break when walked on. The third type would be rusting, which would add rust to different iron type blocks, like iron bars, lanterns, and cauldrons. The rust could possibly make touching the block poison the player. The fourth type is growth, which would make vines grow up the sides of buildings, moss to grow onto cobblestone, and grass to grow through bricks. Growth would only happen if the blocks getting grown on were close to another type of plant block like grass or mossy cobblestone. Also, maybe cobwebs would start to appear in areas built by the player and left alone for a long time.
