If you look at the text of the achievement An Uneasy Alliance, it says the following:
Rescue a Ghast from the Nether, bring it safely home to the Overworld... and then kill it.
The critical words here are rescue and home. This implies that a ghast is trapped in the Nether, and by bringing it back to the overworld, you return it to it's natural home. Not only that, you're saving it from the Nether.
Therefore, when you bring a ghast to the overworld, it should become neutral towards you (to express gratitude). It would still be hostile toward other players, so ghast cannons wouldn't break.
Additionally, there is an unused sound for the ghast called affectionate_scream. Once in the overworld, the ghast could make a happy face and emit an affectionate_scream every now and then - signifying it's relief at being returned home. In addition, if you got close and fed the ghast nether wart it would also emit a affectionate_scream. Neutral ghasts could be bred with Nether Wart to create baby ghasts that trust you and follow you around (they could sit and stand, of course).
Finally, bringing a Ghast into the overworld would afford you the effect Ghastly Respect for an hour or so. While under this effect, all ghasts are neutral towards you (useful for exploring the Soul Sand valley). Once this effect expires, all other ghasts become hostile towards you, but the Ghast you brought into the overworld remains neutral.
This would be a cute feature that would add a bit more personality to the Ghast.
