Leather armor is, right now, actually harder to acquire than iron armor, meaning it is essentially useless to new worlds. Making leather armor in the early game is a waste of leather we desperately need for bookshelves. As-is, its sole purpose is decorative. I think that's a shame and would like to see it used more!
My idea is simple: Make leather craftable into "culled leather", with one leather providing 4 culled leather, similar to logs -> planks. Culled leather is then the ingredient used to make armor.
This would allow a full set of armor to be crafted with only a few cows slain, making it a highly viable early-game option while preserving the rarity of leather for other crucial items like books.
