The flame reactor works like a beacon but gives an effect called "Inferno", this effects gives you flame and fire aspect plus a flame cloak and effect around them. Armor will have a thorn effect except of returning damage, it sets the attacker on fire. This effect can also be gotten as a potion only in Nether Castles.
