The loot you get from clearing a floor gives you ample gems. Even in the form of gear you can salvage. Then buying gear from vendors and salvaging that allows you to go through multiple gear sets pretty easily. I think gems are fine in its current state.

Yes I know that you can get a lot of emeralds from pottery, but the game should also encourage you to kill all the mobs, not just explore. Mobs can drop gear, but it's rare and usually unreliable compared to just looking for treasure chests.

The NPC's at the camp don't give the best stuff. Their max enchant value 2/3 so it's best to farm levels/maps for the gear you want. As for the emeralds, it's only really viable (late game) to use the emeralds on artifacts since the highest rarity of an artifact (cutrently) is rare. If you're wanting more emeralds to spend on the blacksmith, then maybe you should spend more time farming levels/maps for that item instead of the blacksmith.

From what I've seen so far, every type of enemy has a loot pool of specific items (rather it be the common, rare, or unique version of said item)

Blacksmith and wandering trader is there only to help try and get something half decent, not the best. You'll get tons of emeralds if you use prosperous enchantments and on the right levels/maps. The game isnt meant to cater to idiots. If you think it's meant to be easy or less of a farming game, then maybe you should check out any of the previous dungeon crawler games. Its 100% about scouring the dungeons for loot, not currency because currency never buys the best loot on any of these types of games.
