Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Foundation - Protecting Buildings

I would like to suggest adding foundation blocks. These blocks would protect a certain number of blocks above them, depending on their material.

How would they protect blocks above? Well, things that are usually used for building, like cobble or planks, would break easily upon a creeper explosion. A solution to this would be for the blocks above the foundation to have an increased blast resistance. On top of that, blocks above shall be more difficult to break and the actual foundation blocks will be as well.

The image above includes my textures of the foundation blocks. Below i will list their names and the number of blocks above they protect. (note that i haven't made textures for all materials i plan to add!)

  • Cobblestone Foundation & Mossy Cobblestone Foundation (4m)
  • Stone Foundation & Mossy Stone Foundation (5m)
  • Sandstone Cobble Foundation & Red Sandstone Cobble Foundation (3m)
  • Sandstone Foundation & Red Sandstone Foundation (4m)
  • Brick Foundation (5m)
  • all wood types of foundation (as of 1.15.2) (3m)

On a final note, these foundation blocks will add a little realism and set a size to a player's build. For instance, the Sandstone Cobble Foundation will demand a shorter house.

    The designs for the blocks look great, the wood ones would be great for detailing walls. But, I don't think players would like the restrictions on the blast resistance.

    Either they'll just ignore it and build higher anyways as it'll still protect the area most likely to be damaged, or they'll just make a properly mob proofed base.

    PlutonicPoet34 Yes i was very hesitant while making the distance of protection. I see what you are saying and it makes sense, so I decided to make the protection height higher. Now if players were to build with this block, they would have less restrictions and limits.

    I think it should also make the blocks harder to break...

    SteadyRadar Yes that is a good idea because it reduces fast griefing. I do see a problem though: If someone wanted to edit or add a room to their building, it would be hard and it would be less efficient to do so. Other than that, I think its a swell idea!
