I like the idea of coating items in netherite so they don't burn but I think it should only apply to tools not consumables.

Why would you craft a food item, the BEST food item mind you, and craft it into a food item that harms you? Also this is just how netherite works, you should just say more items transformable into netherite. It would get more people to click your idea.

The idea is coating an item in netherite not completely adding netherite and Ik maybe adding netherite to consumables isn't favored by some but its just a suggestion

I was thinking that you could add it to Elytra or Shulker Boxes.

It would be immensly useful to make unburnable items by coating them with netherite. However I would only like to have that ability for tools and shulkerboxes.

    edit: Including elytra of course

    edit2: typo

I'm pretty sure that would defeat the purpose of netherite... I mean, it's a good idea, but why would I wear netherite if my diamond armour is fire proof? I know it gives some buffs too, but I think a better idea would be to make the netherite coating so thin that it's a one time use. When it drops out of your inventory, it is fire proof until it gets picked up by some one. Just so netherite armour isn't shoved out of the spotlight.

I really like this but not for the smithing table. Maybe they could add something like a forge and that could melt the netherite onto the item. This is something they should consider because I’m terrified of having shulker boxes and my elytra in the nether and around lava. They could make it as late game as they want and they could even add the dragon egg to the forge crafting recipe for all I care but I just want to be able to make unburnable items!
