Soul Sand/Soul Soil should extinguish burning players

The new 1.16 Nether content has improved the Nether substantially, but one problem in particular makes it rather frustrating to survive in at times: Unless a player has fire resistance potions, there is no way to extinguish oneself after being ignited.

Skilled players in the Overworld can use water to their advantage, either by carrying it with them or by jumping into a nearby body of water, but no such option exists in the Nether. Instead, players must wait helplessly as their health depletes.

I propose that Soul Sand and/or Soul Soil can fill such a role. 

Soul Soil is already used alongside ice to create basalt by cooling lava. Since Soul Sand already generates in large patches along the shores of the Nether's lava oceans, it could serve as a quick way for a player to extinguish oneself after falling into what would otherwise be a hopeless situation.
