    That makes no sense. IRL if crops were struck by lightning they'd probably die.

    I know Minecraft doesn't make any sense, but this doesn't any more sense than floating trees.

    I'd rather have it so that if lightning hits crops, or even berry bushes, that the crop/bush would turn into a dead bush

    But maybe around where crops grow makes more sense. In some countries' folklore, one thunderstorm is enough to boost crop growth significantly (especially following a drought) because it could bring extra nitrogen from the air into the soil and crops will take them up. And I also support the ideas that plants will burn up when struck by lightning.
