Maybe ferrets would retrieve your items, like you have a stack of iron and the ferret can retrieve your stack and carry it home

Ferrets would actually be a plains-exclusive mob, since black-footed ferrets naturally live in the Great Plains, and the plains are incredibly boring in-game despite their diverse wildlife in real life. Black-footed ferrets only have one color/marking variation (black-footed, obviously), but since they would be tameable in the game, they would most likely have the same color/marking variations that domesticated ferrets do, right? Sable (most common in real life), black, panda, dark-eyed white, etc. Maybe even a rarer albino variation?

Since ferrets are obligate carnivores, mostly eating rodents in the real world, raw rabbit would be a good way to tame them. Or maybe a rabbit's foot, if you wanted it to be a little harder. I personally imagine that they would act more similarly to foxes rather than cats, since wild ferrets are obviously.. well, more wild than cats. Either way, I think this would be a pretty good idea! If the Minecraft devs wanted something a little more general than ferrets, weasels would be a good alternative! There are a lot of different weasel species out there, so they could be located in more diverse biomes than ferrets could be, and they could still be tamed like ferrets would be (hey, if it's moral to tame wolves, foxes, and ocelots, it's okay to tame weasels).

I have 4 ferrets currently, and have had 5 ferrets in my lifetime (one died of old age), ferrets are awesome creatures and are just like combinations of dogs & cats. I really suggest adding them! (They also come in many different colors so add that to)
