Burned out nether portals+ glowing obsidian

We have all experienced a ghast blowing up our Nether Portals. Well, what if this event could be less annoying and more exciting. I introduce to you, burned out portals. This would be an event that would occur when you portal is disconnected from its inter-dimensional counterpart. The portals will go out and leave behind a frame made out of glowing obsidian. I propose glowing obsidian would have the same properties as magma blocks but without the bubble columns underwater and be a small light source like blue ice. What glowing obsidian could do is completely up to Mojang. But I personally loved the old glowing obsidian texture and have been waiting for a block like it to be added to Minecraft and I believe this would be a cool way to add it.
