Geo Blocks is an excellent idea for Minecraft. The target is specifically for map developers and people who use custom map generators. The geo block is a blank ore block, which stores the ore type on the server via metadata (or entity data)
Here are the few variants of Geo Blocks base models:
- Geo Stone
- Geo Netherrack
- Geo Endstone
- Geo Gravel
Their names will obviously not be as listed above. Geo blocks share the properties of their derived type, so Geo Stone would require a pickaxe, and Geo Gravel would require a shovel.
Their textures should resemble their derived models with a slight adjustment that makes it clear that it indeed is an ore block.
Geo Blocks WILL NOT show the actual ore type that you'd receive when you mine it. This means, theyd all appear blank, but if a developer sets it to give diamonds, then it's loot would share the same properties of the ore type.
WHY WOULD GEO BLOCKS BENEFIT MINECRAFT?!
- Geo Blocks would allow server developers using custom world generators to COMPLETELY replace all ores in game with the Geo Blocks. This is a potential nerf to all XRAY exploiters. This means that even if an XRAY user does cheat on a game server with these ores, they'll likely only find these ores.
- Geo Blocks may have some applicable use in building.
- Geo Blocks may have some applicable use in Adventure Maps.
The way I look at Geo Blocks is simple. It's an easy to implement block, with minimal effort required. It would not negatively effect Minecraft, and should only enhance gameplay.
