Chains working with cogs

My idea would be that the chains in the new snapshot would work with cogs. for example, you could lift blocks or move lanterns up and down. And for the cogs to move you need redstone. The lower the redstone input, the slower the gears turn. You can craft these cogs with iron. You could place these cogs on the side of a block. The model of the cog whould be 3d and not 2d like in one of the older versions of minecraft. Maybe it whould be nice if it whould work sideways to pull a block or something.
