More building blocks is not a new idea. But I think this idea is.
We have the stonecutter. You insert a block, and it shows options for what you can craft with it. You input stone and are shown options for what you can craft with it. But say some of these options were marked with a question mark. These question marks are secret blocks that you have to unlock in order to craft.
Say you add a bunch of new dungeons to the game, dungeons with mining fatigue like the ocean monument. these dungeons could use these new secret blocks. Add bosses to these dungeons. And when a boss for the corresponding dungeon is defeated, you unlock the blocks in that dungeon and the mining fatigue is broken.
For example, we could have a dessert dungeon, built with cool new sandstone bricks, sandstone pillars. Jars and candles. Defeat the boss in that dungeon and you will unlock these new blocks in the stonecutter. Add more dungeons to caves. Maybe a cave dungeon that can only be found in ice biomes. A dungeon generated with ice bricks and ice stone, and maybe a blue variant of glowstone. Defeat the boss, maybe a yeti or a giant snowman. Unlock the blocks.
I am a builder, and this would certainly make me explore the world A LOT more.
