I was browsing the feedback page looking to see if anyone already had this idea, and I found a pretty interesting one that I think I could improve upon. Tony W. thought of the "Anti-Beacon". Look it up, it's really cool, but I think I have another idea.
The Nether Beacon would be crafted the same way as a regular beacon, but instead of 3 obsidian or ancient debris, let's use 3 netherite blocks. This would be VERY expensive. You must mine four ancient debrs per ingot, 9 ingots per block, using three blocks to craft it. That's 108 ancient debris, and gold ore, mined for just ONE beacon. To be satisfied with this extreme cost, the Nether beacon must be really worth the hastle, so what would it do?
You can still build up the pyramid layers with the current gem blocks, but the effects of the beacon would change as follows:
1 Layer: Slow Falling, and Night Vision
2 Layers: Fire Resistance and Soul Speed
3 Layers: *Magma Strider
If you notice, I suggested a new effect exclusive to the Nether Beacon I call "Magma Strider". This new effect would allow you to swim faster in lava, maybe the equivalent speed of swimming in water. Now, this does not automatically give you fire resistance, so you would need a potion or second Nether Beacon.
This would not only be a fun addition to the game, but it would give more control to the player, and would allow them to more easily traverse and build inside the Nether, especially the lava lakes.
