Updates go through minecraft store (free) and are optional.

This idea would have the minecraft developers upload their updated items to the minecraft store or even under a new tab. The player would then choose whether or not that update would apply to their world or not. I believe this idea would lead to a more personal experience and allow all minecraft users to have enjoy the game the way they want to. Developers would also not have to worry whether or not the update is too over the top for the simplistic game.
