Glass Desert

The Glass Desert would be a vast, sand-filled landscaped with spikes of a new type of glass sticking out of the ground, similar to the Ice Spikes biome. Nothing would inhabit these wastes, with it containing a new type of glass (currently unnamed) that makes up the spikes. This glass would look like a transparent-ish form of sandstone, but with one catch: it reflects and refracts lightning! In the Glass Desert biome, a new type of weather would spawn: dry thunderstorms. These would be a more intense form of thunderstorms without rain. When lightning strikes a glass spike, it would reflect all over the place! When lightning strikes sand, it would turn it into a new block variant making up half of the biome: charred sand. The reason you would want to find and explore this biome is for the glass, which could be used as a form of defense. At the center of the spikes could be found a kind of crystal, which could be used to create a target area for the lightning glass. The glass could be triggered by redstone, allowing it to be used as a form of base defense!

    The glass could be called desert opalite, and the property could be light could go through it but you would not be able to see though it.

    I like this. It's similar to an idea I've had before.

    I think the new block should be called Glazed Sand.

    Very outlandish but still makes complete sense, sounds like a subtle but very dangerous biome, though it'd probably have the same rarity as a mushroom biome. Maybe it could be something you could find with a cartographer's map. I'm very excited to see where this goes!

    amazing idea, keeps a minecraft feel while also giving us new innovative ways of defence and attack, although i will admit the crystal part could use with a bit of changing, but other than that good idea!

    i got a seed that has spikes made of sand next to a village is it rare? they are like ice spikes but made of sand???

    Maybe instead of Charred Sand it is Sandglass, a gravity-affected transparentish block?

    Maybe it can be called the "Thunderglass Desert," to avoid comparisons with the Glass Desert of Slime Rancher.
